This Substack has gone dormant for a while. I suppose it comes down to the fact that there are times in my life when I write and times when I don’t. This might be my year for writing since last year was not. Last year was about selling a house, moving, and remodeling a new house. It was mentally consuming. I was thoughtful quite a lot of the time.
So what’s new for 2025?
Trump is the new thing this year. (In case you hadn’t noticed.) There appear to be some folks upset about this turn of events. Others are pumped. Elon Musk is learning what happens when he decided to change from old-school progressive to classic revisionary. Do you notice that twist? Progressivism became regressive and revisionism became classic. Society is a fascinating study of humankind.
I never liked Trump. Didn’t read his books. Didn’t watch The Apprentice. He was just some rich guy in New York. That world view was very far removed from my world of a single mother, surviving cancer, while raising a disabled child on a budget. I had bigger fish to fry than watching some guy redecorate Manhattan.
But Trump eventually won me over because I’m fair minded. After really watching the guy, I discovered 3 important things about him. 1. He is a lousy communicator. 2. He’s smarter than I thought. 3. He doesn’t attack first but is relentless in responding to an attack. Some will disagree with me but after years of teaching my son what people actually mean with tone, inflection, and gestures, I trust my ability to form decent opinions without the aid of NPR.
On my personal front:
Now that I’ve moved to a new house, I’m moving forward in my career. When I considered my direction, I first asked my son if he wanted all my hard-drives (I have 5 or 6) of photography when I (eventually) died (from old age in my bed, I hope) but he said he didn’t. He wouldn’t know what to do with the photos. (They’d probably end up in a box like Vivian Maier’s photography.)
So, I decided that my “legacy” should be unboxed now instead of later. That way, when someone buys a piece of it, they can watch the value grow when I do (eventually) chase my dogs (and cats) over the rainbow bridge.
And that’s what I’m doing. You can see some of that in a fine little French art gallery called ArtMajeur. It’s located in Paris.
Also, I just won another International award. I had to do a happy dance. I’ll tell you about that when I get final confirmation.
